I have never been able to find W. S. Valentine listed in credible publication, such as the Los Angeles city directories, which connect him with "Putnam & Valentine." What I do find is Putnam & Valentine, John R. Putnam, Arion Putnam, and Carlton O. Valentine during the time period 1901 through 1920. Photographs published as Putnam & Valentine also included photographs made by John R. and Arion between about 1891 and 1901 before they partnered with Valentine.
