    There are two heliographs visible - one towards the front, and one further back. I think this is one panel of a stereograph - the sterograph is here at the National Galleries of Scotland:

    It is very hard to tell from this photo, but I think the angle between the heliograph rear rod and the mirror is too large for the heliograph to be the British Mance pattern (right example in image below), and is rather than India pattern (left example in image below), as one might expect from Indian troops in WWI.

    This is a Central Mexican Rail Road train, locomotive Nr. 18. The Central Mexican joined México City to Paso del Norte (Ciudad Juárez) border to El Paso, Texas. I am from Torreón, Coahuila. This railroad company reached my city on 1883 and when this hapened the line was done. Five years later the International Mexican reached Torreón causing the town to develop at gigant steps. The line joined Ciudad Porfirio Díaz (Piedras Negras), border to Eagle Pass, Tex. and Durango, México. The locomotive model seems to be from those years up to 1890. Today the place most likely might be Avenida de los Arcos and Boulevard Bernardo Quintana, Querétaro City (capital of the state of the same name), México.
