Lieutenant Frederick Wigan Jones

    Frederick Wigan Jones, who had attended Stechford Council School in Birmingham, originally enlisted on the outbreak of war as a Private soldier, Regimental Number 2648, in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He was subsequently commissioned on 16th November 1915 [London Gazette 29377 dated 23rd November 1915 shows his Commission as Second Lieutenant] and attained rank of Lieutenant in 8th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment on 10th October 1916. He initially arrived in France on 22/3/1915, possibly serving in 3rd Battalion Royal Warwicks. Lt Jones was wounded on 25th November 1916 and he Died of Wounds in hospital after evacuation to England on 21th December 1916 His medals were claimed by W. F. Jones, as next his of kin, 27/06/1921. Address for correspondence given as Sandown, Station Road, Steepford, Birmingham.//

    According to CWGC website he was the son of William Thomas and Fanny Maria Jones, of "Sandown," 270, Station Rd., Stechford, Birmingham. Born circa 1892 according to the 1911 census. He was the only child. Aged 19 and described as an Art Student. Born in Birmingham.
