    Town crier Klees of West-Terschelling.

In this photograph Klees is announcing that the salvage vessel "Karimata" [shown below] scooped out the first bar of gold from the wrecked HMS Lutine. (July 29, 1938)

Jack Howe Australias first clown

  • State Library of Queensland said:
Do you know more about Jack Howe, Australia's first clown? We know that he was the father of Jack Howe, the champion shearer of Queensland.

I've been doing some reading up the advertising for La Rosiere's Circus he may had used the name "Ricardo" it mentioned he (Ricardo the clown) also did equestrian performances as part of his clown act. I can't find a mention of his (Jacks) name though in any of the advertising Rosiere seemed to have the real names of his performers in the advertising but Jack (John) Howe's name doesn't appear. It doesn't mean he didn't work for them. Here's his death notice/obituary from 1916 he was 91 when he died. trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/82177262
