Kimberley Diamond Mine

    This is not in fact a picture of the Kimberley Diamond Mine (now commonly referred to as the Big Hole), but one of the other mines in the vicinity. It is probably the De Beers Mine, a few hundred metres away, or perhaps the Dutoitspan mine or Bultfontein Mine in the Beaconsfield suburb of Kimberley.

    I'm sure you're right. I suspect (because the captions on these images are not very precise) that what was meant was "a diamond mine in Kimberley" rather than necessarily 'the Kimberley Diamond Mine'. Farini's book might make this clearer.
