Peter Osborn, secretary to the horse bus working group of the London Historical Research Group of the Omnibus Society shared this background with us: "We believe the bus in the picture to be a Kingsland Association bus on the Camberwell Gate to Kingsland Gate service. The photo is taken in Borough High Street looking southwest, and building on the right is Southwark Cathedral and the signal box the original Borough Market Junction (the signals mounted atop the box are of interest). The domed building in the background is Borough Market; their website mentions that the ‘need to widen the railway line in 1897 brought the demise of the Market’s magnificent but short-lived glass and iron domed roof’."
