    The only peak remotely like that in NZ is Mt Egmont/Taranaki, on the west coast of the North Island. What you see on the cliff top is a Maori "pa", a hill fort. That stockade would appear to be to keep people from falling over the edge, not for defensive purposes as such, though it would give a good impression to any passing sea canoes.
