  I'm not very nautical myself, but didn't we learn before that the sail-plan of the vessel at the quay was that of a brigantine(?) Also, based on his attire, I wouldn't expect that the guy on the left was a manual worker - not at the same paygrade as the other bloke anyway...

  There's a Lawrence shot taken from a similar angle. There are also some later photos of the pier at the Schull Community Council webpage.

  You might see two men dressed exactly like this pair there today, 100 years later. The narrow gauge railway closed in 1947.
