Unique aeroplane, only one made, first flown in 1918, performance was disappointing so development and 2 further airframes discontinued.

This is a very early Osprey Mk I (not IV) It basically spent its life at three UK bases, Gosport, Lee-on-Solent and Leuchars. It is never recorded with any distinctive markings and with no date I am not able to get any closer. Stig

Hawker Osprey Mark I, S1681, piloted by Flying Officer A. 'Arthur' P.F.M. Berkeley, squadron leader of No. 803 Squadron assigned to the HMS Eagle, with the aviation photographer Charles E Brown as passenger. Taken in 1933 during exercises in the English Channel just before the HMS Eagle departed for China Station. (photo featured on the inside rear cover of 'Aeroplane Monthly' magazine - thought to be the December 1983 edition and on Valentine & Sons, of Dundee and London, Post Card reference 38A-64, circa 1939, 'Aeroplane' magazine copyright on printed image).
