This is a Technicare (formerly known as Ohio Nuclear) MRI scanner, model name "Teslacon", that was being produced from 1981* on. This one was a 0.5T** superconducting system.

Actually they called the method NMR then - Nuclear Magnetic resonance. However the N portion was not very popular due to the negative connotation of "nuclear", so it soon was dropped.

In 1981, Technicare had already been purchased by Johnson & Johnson. In 1986, Johnson & Johnson folded the company, selling its intellectual property and service business to General Electric.

*The informations in the web are conflicting:
    Johnson and Johnson cites 1981.
    Wikipedia states 1984.
NewsRounds issue June/July 1983 by Rush University Medical Center (p.66) claims that such a scanner was installed July 8, 1983.

**I found same image (black&white print; mirrored) here:

See first page of the preview. It depicts the Teslacon with a field strength of 0.5 Tesla.
