Typical of the Luqueer collection, there's a star on a photo - and that usually means something bad has happened to one of the photo's subjects. In this instance, we also have a notation which reads "Crashed - Feb. 23, 1931". Given the "clues", such as the logo for aviation enthusiast and surgeon, Dr. T.C. Young, along the side of this aircraft, it is almost certain that the gentleman in the photo is Dr. Thomas C. Young, and the aircraft is his custom-constructed Kinner Courier named "Spirit of Ether," reg. NC4618 (4618). Dr. Young would perish in this aircraft along with friend and passenger Ray C. Mertz, when it's wing reportedly failed causing it to crash near Chino, California on February 23, 1931.
