    Between 1879-82 due to the Garden Palace. I think we are looking north, not west.but not yet sure what the building roof is. Perhaps Darlinghurst Gaol or Courthouse?

    I think you're right samdefranc. The building in the middle distance could be the heritage listed St. Peters Rectory.

    I am sure it is Forbes Street on the left - that terrace of houses and the Rectory are visible on Google Street view behind all the trees. The roof seems to belong to 270 Liverpool Street - possibly not this building but currently for sale - www.realcommercial.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=depi&t=co... . I wonder if there was previously a Government Building on that site ?
