I love these old 'ideal' scenes. I have same or similar in some of my own old books. They invariably show the animals eating each other or fighting each other. The one in the water here has presumably been killed already in an earlier fight with one of the animals on the shore. it's a funny idea of what is 'ideal' ! I suppose we'd say 'idealized' nowadays.
