Info from aerialvisuals.ca Northrop Gamma 2B NR12269 MSN 2 By 1934 To Lincoln Ellsworth Expedition with c/r NR12269. Operated with markings: Polar Star. Used by explorer Lincoln Ellsworth and pilot Herbert Hollick-Kenyon for Antarctic exploration, culminating in a trans-Antarctic flight from Dundee Island to the Little America station, with five stops, in November-December 1935. They reportedly attempted to reach the South Pole, but made a forced landing only 25 miles short of the pole. The aircraft was recovered a year later and donated to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC, where it is on display, and is the only Gamma in existence today.
