North American FJ-3 Fury’s of VF-211 ‘Red Checkertails’. 1956-1957 aboard CVA-31 USS Bon Homme Richard. Using the then tailcode ‘G’ of Carrier Air Group 21 (CVG-21) Side numbers 116 & 120. First flying the FJ-3 Fury, VF-211 was re-established at NAS Moffett Field in June 1955. During 1957-1958 it swopped over to the supersonic F8U-1 Crusader. From March 1959, VF-211 was renumbered to VF-24 and remained so until being disestablished in August 1996. Carrier Air Group 21 was established in July 1955. After complete modernisation and rebuild, CVA-31 USS Bon Homme Richard recommissioned on 6 September 1955 and began the first of a long series of 7th Fleet deployments on 16 August 1956 with CVG-21 embarked. Between 16 Aug 1956 & 28 February 1957, CVG-21 code ‘G’, deployed aboard USS Bon Homme Richard with FJ-3 equipped VF-211.

Very interesting to see the planform view of the A-4 Skyhawk relative to its cousin the F4D Skyray! I had no idea that the Skyray's wing was so much larger.
