Born 5 Sep 1860 Kirkcudbrightshire. Died 18 Dec 1939 Broomhill, Stratton, Cornwall. Married Mary Agnes Tanner 1906 Newton Abbot. 3 children: Agnes Joy (1907), James Kennedy (1909) and Jean Mary (1912) Son of James and Harriet Agnes Stoddart (nee Thompson) who were living at 13 Queens Gardens, Paddington in 1881 when Archibald was a 20 yr old Sub-Lt. He is shown living with them at this address and also aboard the "Briton" in Devon! In 1861 the family were resident at Carlingwark House, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland (now a care home) on the banks of Carlingwark Loch and this is probably where he had been born some 7mths earlier. At that time his father was aged 47 and described as Captain RN Half Pay. In 1901 Archibald was stationed aboard the "Jupiter" in Gibraltar. UK Navy lists show him as Captain 26 Jun 1902, Rear Admiral 19 May 1912. 9 May 1914 he was in command of the CARNARVON.
