F-4E (45th F-4F for Germany) McDonnell Douglas photo

This is the second prototype YF-4E. This a/c started life as an F-4C (63-7445) and featured the definitive nose-mounted cannon installation but had no radar fitted. Originally powered by two J79-GE-J1Bs, it was later equipped with J79-GE-17s which became the standard for F-4Es. McDonnell F-4D-28-MC 65-0713 was also modified as the third YF-4E and was used to fit the AN/APQ-120 FCR. (Not an F model for GAF.)
