Are you sure that this photograph is of Archibald Hugh James? This officer is in Royal Engineers uniform and quite clearly wears the medal ribbon of the Military Cross. Furthermore A H James served as a Lieutenant in the 11th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa from 1 Apr 1901 to 10 Apr 1902. The officer in this photograph looks to be a younger (certainly not 36+) and a less 'seasoned' soldier. He is not wearing a campaign ribbon for South African Service. Please would you double check that the photograph is correctly indexed / attributed? There are several indications that this is not Lt Col A H James DSO NF.//

Richard Neville Abadie was one of four sons of Major-General Henry Richard Abadie that died in various conflicts; there is a memorial in Canterbury Cathedral. See: 1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=165981

Richard was born in Eastbourne in 1882, the 4th son of Henry Abadie. in the 1891 Census, he is away at school in Tonbridge and later shows up in the Charterhouse lists. The Charterhouse lists state that he arrived at school there in 1895 and joined the army in 1899. He saw service in the South African War and join the KRRC in 1900. He is listed in the KRRC in the 1911 Census, aged 29. His medal index card doesn't tell you much more than the listings above, except that it was his stepmother who applied for his medals.
