Wiley Post and Charles Babb standing in front of the hybrid Lockheed Orion-Explorer (NR12283) in which Post and humorist Will Rogers would perish in Walakpa Lagoon, near Point Barrow, Alaska. See: aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=34148 Babb sold Post the aircraft which was built combining the salvaged wing of the Lockheed Model 7 Explorer Special named "Blue Flash" (ex- "Yankee Doodle"), registered as NR-101W (c/n 148), and the fuselage of a TWA (Transcontinental and Western Air) Lockheed Model 9E Orion Special, NC12283 (c/n 195).
