The boat is the Ovoca built in 1908 in Arklow, later fishing out of Balbriggan.

Scenery looks pretty rugged - further West than Arklow, I'd say. I note a coastguard station with flagstaff.

Taken at Castletownbere I'd say - This part of the harbour is now filled in, but that's the Workhouse in the background and the profile of the hill matches the modern Streetview www.google.ie/maps/@51.6508038,-9.9102059,3a,75y,80.01h,8...

The Coastguard station in the photo wasn't there when the 25" Ordnance Survey map was created, so that may provide some dating evidence. The NIAH suggest it was built circa 1910, so this photo must be later. www.buildingsofireland.ie/niah/search.jsp?type=record&...

There's some more info on the Ovoca at the bottom of the page here, as well as some photos of it later in Balbriggan harbour.

Please accept my apologies for the late posting of this image? Problems with broadband at a remote location! I'll do better in future;-)

Looks like it might be Windham Henry Wyndham-Quin, sometime between 1901 when he was made an Honorary Colonel, and 1926, when he became 5th Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl.

His wife, Lady Eva, had a pet raven - i.ebayimg.com/images/g/3sIAAOSwyjBW6EbB/s-l1600.jpg Via ebay (!). Edit - the photo is cropped from The Tatler of 17/4/1912, and is at Castletown House, Co. Kilkenny. See text - i.ebayimg.com/images/g/en4AAOSwmmxW6EbF/s-l1600.jpg

Well I never! That Tatler photo of Lady Eva has "Poole, Waterford" at bottom right. Wonder if the original is in the NLI catalogue ...
