What a nice shot of the OFM Ro.5 (or Ro.5bis) captured by and most likely used by Hoover's unit the 52FG. Stig

    enclosed canopy = Ro.5bis

Yes General wisdom says so. I have some conflicting reports, hence my hesitation. Stig

Where are you guys getting the Rome Ro. 5 reference? If I am not mistaking this is the Breda 15S that was rebuild by the 4th Fighter Squadron... Romeo 5 never had an eliptical wing either as far as I know...

rlucas1981 Indeed Jumping to conclusions too fast, I'm afraid. Sorry about that Stig

At the time Bob Hoover was in Italy the aircraft company was known as IMAM, but this particular aircraft was built when the company was still called OFM (Officine Ferroviarie Meridionali) The type has to be either a Ro 5 or Ro 5bis. Stig
  • krztalizer said:
has to be the Ro 5 bis as this is the improved engine over the original, as well as an enclosed canopy.

See other remark on other picture, Breda 15S, not Ro 5...
