The kid clearly moved instead of staying still for the photo!

This has happened I think to all of us trying to capture children. They move and you end up with an image much like this one. What an honor it is to view these images from the 1800's. So impressed with the quality and integrity of the images taken over a hundred years ago.

How many of our photos will be around in a hundred year's time?

So happy I'm not the only one with a child that moves during picture's. But even beyond that the expressions on their faces tell the story as well.

Auchmithie is a village perched on a cliff a few miles north of Arbroath. Some would say that it's the original home of the famed "Arbroath Smokie", and indeed for a long time it had a much bigger fishing fleet than its southern neighbour. But its harbour, at the foot of the cliffs was possibly less attractive than that available in Arbroath and during the 19th century, much of its fleet moved away.

The village is a quiet spot today with the harbour only home to a few small vessels

Of passing note is that fact that it figures in Scott's "The Antiquary", where it is called "Musselcrag".

There is a rather nice seafood restaurant in the village which is worth a visit.

It is interesting to see this photographic documentation of the late 19th century roots of what we in America now think of as an Appalachian ribbed melon basket. No doubt this functional rib framed basket type has even earlier origins. It is a basketmaking tradition which Scottish basket makers most likely brought with them as they immigrated to America. Thank you for posting it.
