    There's that blunt ICBM RV nose cone, again. The Mark II beryllium-copper RV was thick and heavy to act as a heat sink in protecting the W-49 nuclear warhead of the ICBM version of the Atlas. Because of its heavy weight, development continued, producing the ablative RVs that were used in operation Atlas missiles, as well as Titan I and Titan II.

    Gives a good picture of the actual distance between Atlas launch pads at The Cape. Most shots like this are telephoto images that compress the considerable safety zone between pads. Planners always established the size of the zone by the worst case scenario of an explosion where all the available propellants and pyrotechnics detonated at one time.
