The lower slung engines on the wings, different cockpit design, and spats on the landing gear identify this aircraft as the Prudden TM-1 Trimotor, not the earlier XM-1.

The Prudden SE-1 (reg. X-7414) was a conversion of the Prudden TM-1 Trimotor (reg. X-5728) into a single-engined aircraft powered by a Pratt & Whitney Wasp radial engine. Failing to draw any commercial interest, the aircraft was sold to the Mexican government, for use against rebels in that country. While A.J. Edwards did work for Ryan Airlines previously, at the time this photo was taken he was the sales manager for Prudden-San Diego Airplane Company. Here, he is standing to the left in front of the Prudden TM-1 Trimotor, F.W. Hemingway is in the center, and George H. Prudden (the tallest in the photo) is on the right.
